Hochster Memorial: Iona's Newman wins in 3-man playoff

Iona's Dylan Newman shot 71-73 and defeated Matthew Fields and Jonathan Renza on the first playoff hole to take the top prize at the 77th Hochster Memorial

SCARSDALE, N.Y. (June 16, 2014) -- Iona's Dylan Newman shot 71-73 and defeated Matthew Fields and Jonathan Renza on the first playoff hole to take the top prize at the 77th Hochster Memorial. Play at the par-70, 6,772-yard Quaker Ridge Golf Club -- often called 'Tillie's Treasure' after its accomplished designer A.W. Tillinghast -- the Hochster Memorial is a unique one-day, 36-hole event featuring a solid field of the Metropolitan New York section's top amateurs. Newman tied with Fields (75-69) and Renza (73-71) to force the playoff. Hal Berman led after the morning round but shot a second-round 36 to fall out of the playoff and alone in fourth place. Steve Zychmowski was fifth after rounds of 72-74. A number of the region's more high-profile golfers also participated in the event. Among those of notable resumes included: George Zahringer (74-76, T8), Max Christiana (76-76, T12) and Joe Saladino (78-78, T26).
