Harvey Penick Invitational: Three lead at 70 after day one

The three-way tie atop of the Harvey Penick leaderboard after the opening round consists of two Texans and another golfer from Indiana

AUSTIN, Texas (Oct. 10, 2014) — Recent Texas representative at the U.S. Men's State Team Championship Colby Harwell was one of three players to open the Harvey Penick Invitational with a two-under par round of 70. Also shooting 70 was fellow Texan Neal Barfield and Kenny Cook (pictured) of Noblesville, Ind. Cook had a tied-for-second finish at this year's Lupton Invitational as well as a round-of-32 appearance at the U.S. Mid-Amateur. Austin resident and 2013 champion Brian Noonan is just one back at 71 while four players are tied for fifth place at 72. Overall, the leaderboard is quite crowded as 25 players shot 74 or better and are within just four shots. In the Senior division, Bob Kearney and Thomas Johnson opened with 68's to lead the field by one over John Grace.
