Haag-Low Am at British Senior Open

SURREY, England (July 24, 2011) -- Randy Haag and Paul Simson were the two amateurs left standing when the cut was made on Friday night, but Simson acknowledged that the competition for the low amateur and silver medal was pretty much decided after his 75 on Saturday. It was a done deal when Simson limped to a 2-over 74 on Sunday. “Randy Haag had a great round yesterday and I kind of ruined a good round the last four holes,” Simson said after his final round. "Bogey-bogey-par-double and let it get away for 74, its just one of those things.” Shooting a 4-under 68 on Saturday, Haag was seven shots ahead of Simson at the beginning of the day. He turned at 2 over on Sunday, but the back nine was basically meaningless. “That’s the No. 1 goal, “ Haag said of winning his second career silver medal. “Yeah you want to play well and compete with the pros, but these guys play at a different level. I play at a really high level as an amateur and there’s definitely another a couple of gears.” Both Haag and Simon are off to Toledo and next week's U.S. Senior Open. Haag, barring an exemption from the USGA, will also Monday qualify for the U.S. Amateur after the U.S. Senior Open.
