Greystone Invitational: Will Gordon extends lead to four

Will Gordon is looking to go wire-to-wire in Saturday's final round at Greystone Golf & Country Club

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Incoming Vanderbilt freshman Will Gordon will look to go wire-to-wire at the Greystone Invitational on Saturday. He extended his lead to four entering the final round. Gordon, a native of Davidson, N.C., has followed up his stellar start, a bogey-free opening-round 64, with rounds of 70 and 71. On day three, Gordon had to overcome an early-round double-bogey at the par-5 seventh hole. He slowly worked his way back, making four birdies in the remaining 11 holes. Nathan Mallonee, a junior at Georgia State University who trailed Gordon by a stroke entering the third round, went bogey-free during his second round but struggled to a 74 on Friday. He got to the 15th hole at one-under for the day, but finished wildly with bogeys at 15 and 18, a double on 16, and a much-needed birdie at 17. His hold on second place is by two strokes over Forrest Knight, Robby Prater, and Andrew Minton. This year's field at Greystone Golf & Country Club represent 22 states in the United States and nine different countries including Australia, Canada, Iceland, Jamaica, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, and South Korea.
