Golfweek Senior: Carter takes early lead

LA QUINTA, Calif. (April 13, 2014) -- Ron Carter of Monticello, Ind. shot a 4-under 68 and holds a commanding three-shot lead at the 2014 Golfweek Senior Amateur at the Stadium Course at PGA West. Carter is three better than Steven Hakes of San Diego and David Pocknall of Katy, Tx. Herb Fisher and Doug Williams both shot even par 72 and sit tied for fourth place. In the Super Senior division, Mack Clapp and John Richart both shot 1-under and are tied for the lead. Ted Smith was even and Richard Hubbard 1-over after Round 1. Robert Fouke and Fred Rowland are 1-over and tied for the lead in the Legends Division. They are five up on Roger Gunderson and Bob Hullender entering the second of three rounds on Monday.
