Ron Carter shot 68-68-72 at PGA West to claim the national title by an impressive 11-shot margin

LA QUINTA, Calif. (April 15, 2014) -- Ron Carter of Monticello, Ind. fired a final-round even-par 72 to complete a masterful week at the 2014 Golfweek Senior Amateur played at PGA West's Stadium Course. Carter's 68-68-72 effort put him at 8-under for the event and 11 shots better than runner-up David Pocknall of Katy, Tx. Tom Phillips of Scottsdale, Ariz. and Doug Williams of Los Angeles, finished tied for third place -- 12 back of the winner while Herb Fisher took fifth after rounds of 72-79-70. Two-time defending champion Doug Pool of Las Vegas finished seventh ahead of Cy Whitney. In the Super Senior Division, Ted Smith was a one-shot winner. He shot a final-round 72 that bested Mack Clapp's 73. The duo was chasing leader John Richart, who stumbled to a final-round 80 and settled for a tie for third. Robert Fouke was a one-shot winner in the Legends Flight. He beat Fred Rowland with a final-round 74.
