Gladstone takes low amateur honors at California State Open

San Diego's Cory Gladstone finishes in a tie for 14th place, and was the low amateur player

BEAUMONT, Calif. (August 2, 2014) — A year after returning from a 15-year hiatus from the golf world, Cory Gladstone, age 35, tied for 14th place at the California State Open. He took home low amateur honors with his finish — a two-under par total of 286. Gladstone, a San Diego native, fired an opening-round 65 and was just two back of eventual runaway winner Chris Gilman. But rounds of 74, 76, and 71 dropped Gladstone further and further back from Gilman, who lapped the field winning by seven shots. Recently, Gladstone has played in the 2011 U.S. Mid-Amateur and 2013 U.S. Amateur Public Links, failing to qualify for match play on both occasions. Gilman's seven-shot win included rounds of 63 and 64 to open to tournament, requiring him to only need 71 and 70 on the final two days to claim an easy victory.
