Gibstein takes Long Island Amateur in playoff

The Engineers Country Club member outlasted Island Hills Golf Club's Gregory Etimos in a three-hole playoff

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (July 10, 2012) -- Edward Gibstein starting his day three strokes off the pace. First round leader Griffin McQuilling of Garden City Golf Club carded a 1-over-par 72 on the Black Course at Beth Page State Park, home of the 2009 U.S. Open, while Gibstein shot a 75. Gibstein who plays out of the Engineers Country Club, moved ahead of eleven players that beat him the first round after firing an even par 71 on the monster-long 7172 yard layout in his second round. Gibstein found himself tied with Gregory Etimos of Island Hills Golf Club at 146 (73-73.) The two battled in a 3-hole aggregate playoff on holes 1, 17 and 18. Gibstien found the winner's circle after carding 11 on the three holes as Etimos had 14. Third place went to Matthew Demeo of Hamlet Wind Watch who shot 148 (75-73.)
