EATONTON, GA (May 31, 2017) - After the first 18 holes of stroke play qualifying, Hannah Barger of Elberton posted a 2-under-par 70 to lead after round one of the Georgia Women's Match Play Championship. The 20th playing of this competition is taking place at Reynolds Lake Oconee - Great Waters, May 31-June 3.
Also near the top of the leaderboard is Hannah Mae Deems of Taylorsville who posted a 1-under par 71 to sit in second place followed by Payton Schanen of Johns Creek who sits in third with a 1-over par 73. Reigning Women's Match Play Champion, Louise Yu of Duluth, posted a 4-over par 76 and sits tied for eleventh.
In the Senior Women's Match Play Championship, Laura Coble of Augusta, a Georgia Golf Hall of Famer, posted a 3-over par 75 to lead after 18 holes. Coble won the Senior Women's Match Play title the last time it was played in 2015 and has won the Georgia Women's Match Play Championship nine times.
The Women will play 36 holes of stroke play qualifying followed by match play for the low 32 players. The low 16 qualifying scores will comprise the Championship flight and the remaining 16 players will be seeded into a Tournament flight based on qualifying scores.
The Senior Women will play 36 holes of stroke play qualifying followed by match play for the low 32 players. The low eight qualifying scores will comprise the Championship flight and the remaining 24 players will be seeded into three flights of eight players based on qualifying scores.
