Georgia Women's Match Play: Coble, Shirley to meet in finals

Laura Coble beats medalist, Lauren Court, to advance to finals in pursuit of her 9th Georgia Women's Match Play title. Coble will meet Margaret Shirley in the finals tomorrow

CARROLLTON, Ga. (June 16, 2011) -- The final match is set for the Georgia Women’s Match Play Championship, and Laura Coble of Augusta will take on Margaret Shirley of Athens on Friday at 8:30 a.m. at Sunset Hills Country Club. Coble is the two-time defending champion and has been victorious in Carrollton a total of eight times in the 13 previous years the event has been played. To get to the final match, Coble defeated Kaylee Random of Alpharetta, 5 and 3, in the quarterfinals, and then went on to beat top-seeded Lauren Court of Lawrenceville, 6 and 5, in the semifinals. Shirley, who is the assistant coach of the women’s golf team at the University of Georgia, defeated two-time Georgia Women’s Match Play champion (2007, ’08) Mariah Stackhouse of Riverdale, 2 and 1, in her quarterfinal match. In the semis, Shirley beat 2010 runner-up Amira Alexander of Alpharetta, 2 and 1, to join Coble in the final match. In the final match of the First flight, Mary Riley of Perry beat Joyce Doss of Carrollton, 4 and 2.
