MOULTRIE, GA (November 10, 2017) - The Savannah duo of Jack Hall and Doug Hanzel birdied the first playoff hole to win the Georgia Senior Four-Ball Championship at Sunset Country Club for the third straight year.
Going into the final round, Hall and Hanzel had a one-shot lead over the Macon pair of Hal Johnson and Georgia Golf Hall of Famer Peter Persons. Hall and Hanzel closed with a 4-under 68 but Johnson and Persons did them one better with a 67 to force the playoff. Both teams finished with identical 19-under 197 totals.
On the first playoff hole (the 18th), Hall rolled in a birdie putt to clinch the championship.
Hall and Hanzel have been at or near the top of the AmateurGolf.com Senior Rankings all year, with Hanzel ranked #1 and on an inside track to be the national senior Player-of-the-Year. Hall was ranked as high as #2 this fall and currently sits in the 5th spot.
In the Super Senior Division, another Savannah resident, Allan Small captured the title with partner Larry Clark of Kingston, GA. Their final-round 66 gave them a 16-under 200 total and a three-shot win over the team of Bill Leonard and Don Marsh of Johns Creek, GA.
