EVANS, Ga. (April 27, 2013) -- The Cartersville duo of Chase Jones and
Jayce Stepp fired a 6-under-par 66 in round one of the Georgia Four-Ball
Championship to take a one stroke lead at Champions Retreat Golf Club.
Lurking one stroke back of the leaders are two teams at 5-under-par 67:
2005 Georgia Four-Ball champions Jack Hall of Sea Island and Danny
Nelson of Savannah, and Bob Royak of Alpharetta and Robert Sheats of
Atlanta. Royak won this event in 2006 with Doug Hanzel of Savannah.
Five teams are tied for fourth at 4-under-par 68.
The defending champions, Travis Steed of Macon and Mark Sweeney of
Monroe, are in solo-ninth after a 3-under-par 69 outing.
Entries were open to two-man teams of male amateur golfers who belong
to a GSGA Member Club and are residents of Georgia. The 72 teams with
the lowest-combined USGA Handicap Indexes make up the field.
