Gary Carpendale on track to defend at Las Vegas Senior

With an opening-round 65, Gary Carpendale is pacing the Las Vegas Senior Amateur field by a stroke in his attempt to defend as champion

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (Oct. 30, 2014) — After one round at the Las Vegas City Senior Amateur, defending champion Gary Carpendale leads a lopsided field by one shot at Las Vegas Golf Club. Carpendale reached the round of 32 in this year's U.S. Senior Amateur at Big Canyon Country Club in Newport Beach, where he lost to Lee Sandlin of Dallas, Texas. His seven-under par 65 leads John Corbin by one and John Enright by two, and three other players are under-par through 18 holes. But beyond those six players, only 10 players broke 75 in the opening round. Friday will conclude the City Senior Amateur, and following that on Saturday, the City Amateur Championship will take place on the same golf course. A.J. McInerney is the defending champion, shooting 67-66 in 2013.
