Take a look at Kearney's January track record:
| Jan. 4-6 | Old Corkscrew Senior Golf Tournament | Winner | ||||||||||
| Jan. 8-10 | Gateway Senior Invitational Golf Tournament | Runner-Up | ||||||||||
| Jan. 12-14 | Kingsway Senior Invitational Golf Tournament | Winner | ||||||||||
| Jan. 16-18 | Golfweek Senior National Championship Golf Tournamen | Winner | ||||||||||
The Houston golfer is tearing his way across Florida, and keep in mind as you look at the runner-up finish at the Gateway Senior that it was a playoff loss to Sam Till of Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Kearney has a triple the points this year of any amateur in the AmateurGolf.com Senior Rankings. If the so-called "January effect" is a bad omen for the stock market (let's hope not) it definitely may prove to be just what Kearney needs to springboard a great month in Florida into a special season indeed.
Kearney shot 68 in the final round to separate from the field at 3-under for 54 holes. In second place was Jim Stames, of Ft. Myers Florida, who posted a very solid tournament total of even-par 216. There was a two-way tie for third at 3-over between Vern Spurlock of Fort Worth, Texas and Steve Humphrey of Lexington, Kentucky.
In the Super-Senior division at Adena, Robert Hess of Casselberry, Florida won the title over Jim DeLeon of Bluffton, South Carolina. Just a shot separated the two. Jim Carley of Ormond Beach, Florida took home a 7-shot victory in the Legends Flight.
