The South Team won by a final tally of 17.5-14.5 at Coral Creek Club

PLACIDA, FL (October 21, 2016) -- Thanks to some clutch play in Friday's single matches the South Team won their second consecutive Florida Cup. The South won by a final tally of 17.5-14.5 at Coral Creek Club. Beginning the day ahead 9-7 the South took control early on the final day with wins in the first four singles matches to take a commanding 13-7 lead. The North did make a late charge picking up 4.5 of the final five points but by then the deficit was to large to overcome. Picking up wins for the South on Friday were Rick Woulfe, Peter Wegmann, Jerry Rose, Owen Joyner, Marc France, Daniel Eggertsson and Richard Donegan. The South now leads the all-time series and has won the last two playings of the biennial event. DAY ONE RECAP Thanks to a big rally in the afternoon Foursomes the South team has taken a 9-7 lead over the North in the Florida Cup Challenge Matches. The South will now look to secure their third straight title in the biennial event. Trailing 5.5-2.5 after the morning Four-ball session at Coral Creek Club the South got to work following the lunch time break. The sides split the points in the first three matches of the Foursomes session but from then on it was all the South as they won the final five matches to flip the script heading into Friday's final round. When all was said and done the South won 6.5 of a possible eight points in the Foursomes.
