Exber keeps Morrison Cup lead as he chases three-peat

Brady Exber, one of the nation's top senior players, is chasing a third consecutive victory at the Morrison Cup

Two-time defending champion Brady Exber remains tied atop Morrison Cup leaderboard after 36 holes at Pauma Valley Country Club in Pauma Valley, Calif. Exber also had a share of the lead after the first round.

Exber, a Las Vegas native who is also the defending Canadian Senior Amateur champion, followed his opening 73 with a second-round 74. At 147, he and Craig Calkins share the lead entering the final day. The two will play with John Mack, who is solo third with a 150 total, and David Oas, who is fourth at 151.

The leaderboard is somewhat spread out after that. First-round co-leader Chuck Vuytowecz is tied for seventh at 154. Lawrence Field, who also held a share of the first-round lead, is two shots behind him.

ROUND 1

Two-time defending Morrison Cup champion Brady Exber found his way to the top of the leaderboard on the opening day of the event at Pauma Valley (Fla.) Country Club. Exber, among the top senior players in the country, had a 74 and is part of a three-way tie for the lead.

The Las Vegas native is a two-time Stocker Cup champion, an SNGA stalwart and the defending Canadian Senior Amateur champion.

In addition to Exber, Lawrence Field of Tulsa, Okla., and local Chuck Vuytowecz opened with rounds of 74. It gave the three players a one-shot lead on John Festival from Calgary, Alberta.

Another large group of players is knotted at 76. Six players landed on that number after one round.

In the super senior division, Kemp Richardson of Laguna Niguel, Calif., opened with 71 for a four-shot lead. Bill Brammer and Scott Parker, fellow Californians, are tied for second with 75.

Jim Saivar of Fairbanks Ranch, Calif., leads the legends division.
