MEBANE, NC (September 30, 2016) -- Pacing the field after round one at the North Carolina Four-Ball Championship are the team of Nicholas Lyerly of Salisbury, NC and Justin Emmons from Asheboro, NC. The junior golf duo came into the North Carolina Four-Ball Championship as the youngest team, and put on a show shooting 8-under par 68.
“We came here to win”, Lyerly said when asked how the they felt being the youngest team in the field. Emmons and Lyerly are both committed to play golf at UNC-Greensboro and both are top ranked junior golfers in the state. The highlight of the day came from the 2014 champions, the brothers Gauley. On the 516 yard 16th hole, Mark Gauley made a double eagle holing an iron from 188 yards. Mark and Brian Gauley shot six-under and are tied for fifth.
Half of the defending champions are in the field this year. Brant Stovall joined up with Josh Turner to shoot two-under par and sit in a tie for 28th.
