Duke wins another Tar Heel title; Migliaccio top individual

Duke won the Tar Heel Invitational wire-to-wire for its first fall victory

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (Oct. 14, 2018) – Despite contending in both of its early-fall starts, Duke got its first victory of the season on Sunday at the Tar Heel Invite. It’s familiar territory for the Blue Devils, considering that this Tar Heel title is the 16th in program history and the fifth in the last six years.

Duke won on the strength of a 17-under 271 in the opening round at UNC Finley Golf Course. The Blue Devils hung on to that lead with rounds of 290-291 to end the tournament. At 14 under, Duke was six shots ahead of the next best team.

Ana Belac led the Blue Devils on Sunday with a 2-under 70. It moved Belac three spots up the leaderboard to third. She was the highest Duke player on the individual leaderboard.

“I didn’t feel like I was playing that well throughout the round but the score ended up being good enough,” Belac said.

Jaravee Boonchant also contributed 1-under 71 on Sunday.

Only Virginia and Arkansas went under par on Sunday, firing matching rounds of 1-under 287. Virginia finished the weekend at 8 under and was second to Duke. Arkansas was third at 5 under. They were the only teams to finish under par.

South Carolina was fourth at 2 over and Wake Forest rounded out the top 5 at 4 over.

Wake Forest’s Emilia Migliaccio won the individual title with an 11-under 205 total. It’s the sophomore’s second career victory, and she had to hold off Arkansas powerhouse Dylan Kim to do it. Kim matched Migliaccio’s final-round 70 but it was too little too late. Kim was 7 under for the week.
