Defending champion Bill Hermanson leads Connecticut Senior Amateur

Bill Hermanson will carry a one-stroke lead into the final round at Madison Country Club

MADISON, CT (September 26, 2016) -- Defending champion Bill Hermanson has taken the first round lead at the Connecticut Senior Amateur being held at Madison Country Club. Hermanson opened with a hard fought even-par 70 and will carry a slim one-stroke lead into the final round. The day for Hermanson began slowly with three bogeys in the first five holes before getting things moving in the right direction with birdies on Nos. 8 and 9. After making the turn at 1-over, the 2012 Connecticut State Golf Association Hall of Famer, bogeyed the 11th to drop back to 2-over. However, that would be his final blemish of the day as birdies on No. 13 and 18 followed to conclude the round. Robert Murphy Jr. and Tom Scarrozzo hold a share of second place after 1-over 71's. Behind them are two-time winner Dave Szewczul and Randy Keleher at 2-over and in a tie for fourth. Following the completion of play the top-36 and ties made the cut and final round play will begin at 9:00 a.m. in the form of a shotgun.
