Decker and Garrick win Monterey Four-Ball

14-under par total provides a 1 shot victory over Mac McClung and Kevin Smith

PACIFIC GROVE, Calif (March 4, 2012) -- Michael Decker and Jonathan Garrick fired an 6-under 64 to hold onto their first round lead at the Monterey County Four-Ball at the gorgeous Pacific Grove Golf Links. The pair held off a serious challenge from Mac McClung and Kevin Smith of San Jose who drove the green on number 18 and had a chance for an eagle putt to tie the tournament. They finished a shot back in second, while Casey Boyns and Bill Moore finished third at 12-under. "We stayed patient and attacked the par fours," commented Garrick via email after the round. "We definitely had a shot to break 60 considering neither of us birdied a single par 5." "A big point in the tournament was on 14 when we both hit it in an environmentally sensitive hazard that required us to take a one stroke penalty yet we still limped out with par." Mark Miller and Michael Harding won the senior division at 11-under par 129; Axel Gomez and Dan Gray won a scorecard playoff over Bruce MacLean and Kevin Smith for the net title. Steve Donnelly of Salinas made a hole-in-one on the second hole today in the senior division. He and partner Rob Schneider finished 5th.
