Davis Womble ahead at Cardinal Amateur after first round

Wake Forest senior Davis Womble carded 66 on day one at Sedgefield Country Club to lead by a single stroke

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Wake Forest senior Davis Womble posted four-under 66 on day one of the Cardinal Amateur, played annually at Sedgefield Country Club. The tournament, being played for the 38th time, was notably cancelled during the off-season before being brought back to life in January. Womble was one of just seven players under par after the first round at the 7,000-yard, par-70 course designed by Pete Dye. Though, eight more players carded even par rounds and are just four back with two rounds to go. Among those under par are Campbell University junior Gaston Bertinotti, at three-under, and Colin Monagle at two-under. Monagle, a graduated senior from Jacksonville University, won this year's Magnolia Amateur by four back in July.
