TAFT, CA (October 30, 2016) -- Former Cal State Bakersfield star D.J. Fernando combined rounds of 69-68 to post a 5-under tally and win the Kern County Amateur for the third straight year
“It feels great,” Fernando told the Bakersfield.com. “This is one of the oldest events here in Kern County and has a lot of mystique and tradition. I’m ecstatic to be in the books as the only guy to win three in a row.”
Playing at Buena Vista Golf Course Fernando carded five birdies and bogeyed only once during the final round.
The win also put Fernando in rarified air as he became the third four-time Kern County Amateur winner joining Arnold Kirschenmann and John Balfanz.
Bill Frankhouser (-2) was second, Nick Vallejo (+2) was third while Ryan Roodzant (+5) and Blake McPherson (+5) shared fourth.
