Compton and Lewis take first round lead at Alabama Senior Four-Ball

Compton and Lewis post a first round 63 at The Ledges of Huntsville Mountain to lead by a stroke

Clint Compton and Mike Lewis fired an opening round 63 in the 21st State Senior Four Ball Championship at The Ledges of Huntsville Mountain on Friday to lead by one from three teams.

Compton of Albertville and Lewis of Guntersville had birdies on Nos. 2, 5, 8, 10, 12, 13, 15 and 18 and 10 pars for their eight-under-par total. Doug Davis of Birmingham and Del Wood III of Vestavia Hills; Birmingham’s John Coles III and Bill Griffin; and Madison residents Jeff Hall and Tim Ryberg all carded 64’s.

Defending champions Walker Grant of Alexander City and Robert Nelson of Fairhope shot 65 to sit two back.

The championship will conclude Sunday and is 54 holes at stroke play. It is the final Alabama Golf Association championship of the season.
