Cole Nygren wins Nipomo Men's Amateur

Cal Poly junior Cole Nygren of Longmont, Colorado cards a 69 on the final day at Monarch Dunes to win by a stroke

NIPOMO, Calif. (Jan. 11, 2015) — Cole Nygren, a junior at Cal Poly, carded a three-under par 69 on the final day of the Nipomo Men's Amateur to win by a stroke over teammate Justin De Los Santos and Sage Casaga. In a tournament dominated by Cal Poly players, Nygren, of Longmont, Colo., came back from a four-shot deficit to win the event at Monarch Dunes Golf Club. De Los Santos, a sophomore from Chatsworth, had 69 on day one but shot 74 on Sunday to fall by a stroke to Nygren. Casaga, a high school golfer from Murrieta, posted the low round of the tournament, a 67, on Sunday to jump into the top-two. Rounding out the top five were brothers Johnny and Jimmy Castles, who both play collegiately for Cal Poly, with Jimmy a freshman and Johnny a senior.
