GLENCOE, IL (May 17, 2016) -- Four remain at the Chicago District G.A. Mid-Amateur being played on the historic Lake Shore Country Club. Play will continue tomorrow morning with both semifinals and the championship match to follow at 1:00 p.m local time. The first semifinal at 8:00 a.m. will feature nine-seed Kyle Nathan and 13-seed Cody Sundberg. Nathan advanced to the finals on the strength of a 3&2 victory over co-medalist winner Matthew Minder. Sundberg was able to defeat Mark Sider in 19 holes to move forward. In the other semifinal teeing off at 8:10 a.m. 11-seed Matthew Mclaughlin and two-seed Andy Johnson will duke it out. Johnson forged into the finals by beating Matt Shipley in 19 holes. Johnson the co-medalist winner was down three holes on the back nine before rallying. Mclaughlin bested three-seed Steve Sawtell 4&3 to advance. MEDALIST/ROUND OF 16 RESULTS Playing at the historic Lake Shore Country Club, Andy Johnson of Chicago and Matthew Minder of Springfield each fired 1-under 70, earning co-medalist honors in the second annual Chicago District G.A. Mid-Amateur. Each player worked around three bogeys by carding four birdies to post the only red numbers in the field. The final seven spots in match play were determined by a playoff after nine players shot 5-over 74s. Unfortunately, Brad Metzger and Daniel Moore both double-bogeyed the first playoff hole to be eliminated. Both medalists advanced to the quarter finals. Minder defeated John Wright, 4-and-2. Andy Johnson had a tougher battle on his hands against John Finnin of Mokena. The Olympia Fields CC member took the co-medalist to the final hole before being defeated, 1-up. Play continues Tuesday.
