Castillo, No. 2-ranked junior, wins Yorba Linda City by 12

Ricky Castillo is, not surprisingly, a tough match at home. The Florida commit pulled away at the city championship

If you think Ricky Castillo is tough on the road, take a look at his performance at home. The 18-year-old dusted the field at the Yorba Linda City Championship over the weekend with a final-round 65 at Black Gold Golf Club in Yorba Linda, Calif.

Castillo had opened with a 4-under 68 for a three-shot lead on the field after Day 1. When he came back with 65, it pushed him to 12 shots ahead of runner-up Erick Liscio. Castillo was the only player to get under par – in fact, he was 11 under.

Castillo won the Los Angeles City Junior last year, then backed it up with a win at the Ping Heather Farr Classic. He was third at the prestigious Junior Invitational at Sage Valley and went deep in the U.S. Junior match-play bracket. Castillo, No. 2 in Golfweek’s Junior Rankings, will join the University of Florida roster in the fall.

Behind Liscio in second, Nicholas Cantlay was solo third at 2 over.

Two men tied for second at 5 over, including RSM Amateur winner Jack Solis, a Cal Baptist sophomore. Joshua Hu was also at that number.

In the women’s division, Katie Stribling also authored a distant victory with her 13-over 157 total. Stribling is a freshman on the Irvine Valley College golf roster. Kamryn Garcia came in second at 22 over.
