Cardinal Amateur: Davis Womble holds early lead

Davis Womble shot a first-round 4-under 68 to take the early lead at the 2014 Cardinal Amateur

GREENSBORO, N.C. (July 18, 2014) -- Davis Womble shot a first-round 4-under 68 to take the early lead at the 2014 Cardinal Amateur. Playing the Dye Course at Sedgefield Country Club, the Wake Forest golfer was flawless on the day, recording four birdies without a blemish. J.D. Lehman, a sophomore at Louisville, Drew Czuchry, a former Georgia Tech golfer, rising junior Daniel Pizetoski and Australian Kade McBride all shot 3-under 67 and are tied for second place -- very much in the hunt entering Round 2 of the 72-hole event. The Cardinal Amateur is an invitation-only and features a strong mix of talented collegiate players and mid-amateurs. Notable first-round scores include: Scott Harvey (2-under, T6), Danny Guise (E, T17), Matt Crenshaw (E, T20) and Nicholas Grubnich (2-over, T28).
