Brooke Henderson, the top-ranked Canadian women’s golfer, captured her first Canadian Women’s Amateur

BELOIEL, Quebec (July 26, 2013) -- Brooke Henderson, the top-ranked Canadian women’s golfer, captured her first Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship Friday. Henderson shot 5-under 66 July 26 to finish at 9-under 275 at Club de Golf Beloeil in Beloeil, Quebec. Henderson finished six shots ahead of fellow Canadian and third round-leader Anne-Catherine Tanguay. Mexico’s Gabriela Lopez, 19, was the only other player to finish under par, finishing at 1-under 283. Henderson, 15 of Smiths Falls, Ontario, earns an exemption into the LPGA’s CN Women’s Open at Royal Mayfair Club, Aug. 22-25, in Edmonton, Alberta. Henderson also earned a spot in the U.S. Women’s Amateur, Aug. 5-11 at the Country Club of Charleston (S.C.), but she already was qualified via her T-59 finish at the U.S. Women’s Open. Henderson, ranked 15th in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, finished fifth in this event last year. This year, she has captured the South American Amateur Championship and CN Future Links Pacific Championship. In addition, she finished in second and third place, respectively, at the CN Women’s Tour B.C. and Quebec events earning Henderson her second consecutive Amateur of the Year honors on the tour. She also tied for 35th at the LPGA’s Manulife Financial LPGA Classic. Henderson will defend her Royale Cup Canadian Junior Girls Championship next week (July 29-Aug. 2) at Cherry Downs Golf & Country Club in Pickering, Ontario.
