Campbell and Driver Take the Mid Pines Invitational

The North Carolina duo of Scott Campbell and Tim Driver hold off two teams by one shot; the senior division is also decided by 1

SOUTHERN PINES, NC (February 11, 2018) - Scott Campbell (Wake Forest, NC) and Tim Driver (Holly Springs, NC) won the 19th Mid Pines Invitational on Sunday, shooting 66-68 for a 10-under 134 total and a one-shot victory at Mid Pines Golf Club. The Tennessee-based team of Michael Clingenspeel and Brendon Caballero finished in a tie for second after taking the first-round lead with a 65, and following it up with a 70. The round of the tournament was turned in by Jim Aughtry (Concord, NC) and Joe Jaspers (Huntersville, NC), who started the day eight shots back of the leaders but posted a 10-under 62 to pull all the way into a tie for second, just one shot behind the winners. Aughtry and Jaspers, the 2015 champions, also finished as the runner-up a year ago, losing in a playoff. Nick Shelton and Philip McCutchan, another team from Tennessee, finished alone in fourth at 7-under 137. Vincent Nadeau (Zion Crossroads, VA) and Brandon Grogan (Martinsville, VA), who won the Mid Pines Invitational in 2016 and 2017, finished well back in the pack this year, in 21st at three over par. In the Senior Division, Macon Moye (Pinehurst, NC) and Allen Strange (Richmond, VA) were part of a four-way tie of co-leaders at 5-under 67, but won the shootout on Sunday with a 66 that gave them a one-shot win. John McCord and Alan Jones from Tullahoma, TN were also co-leaders after round one, but a second-straight round of 67 left them one shot short. Sherrill Britt (West End, NC) and Keith Waters (Raleigh, NC) finished third at 7 under, four shots behind the winners. Britt won the tournament last year partnering with Lee Forbis of Pinehurst.
