Calif. Women's Am: Top seeds roll as match play begins

The top three seeds won with ease in the first two rounds of match play at Quail Lodge Golf Club

CARMEL, Calif. (Nov. 8, 2012) -- The top three seeds won with ease in the first two rounds of match play at the 2012 California Womens Amateur Championship at Quail Lodge Golf Club. Stroke-play medalist and No. 1 seed Angel Lin beat Debbie Wall 7-and-6 and Alexandria Oh 4-and-3 to move to Friday's quarterfinals where she'll take on Yoonhee Kim. Casie Cathrea, who's an early-commit at Oklahoma State, and took the No. 2 seed after Tuesday and Wednesday stroke-play qualifying, knocked off Amanda Nealy 6-and-5 and rolled past Jamie Hoffman 5-and-3 to advance to the quarterfinal round where she'll take on seventh-seeded Lucy Li. No. 3 seed Lynne Cowan, who reached the Round of 32 last month at the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship --- where she nearly knocked off eventual champion Meghan Stasi --- defeated Linda Kress 6-and-5 in the first round before taking down Tyler Akabane 2-up in Round 2. The quarterfinals and semifinals will be played Friday with the championship match slated for Saturday.
