STEVINSON, Calif. (April 13, 2014) -- Jacob Solomon shot rounds of 78-75 and survived a playoff with Patrick Burda to win the 2014 California Medal Play Championship at Stevinson Ranch Golf Club, the home course of AmateurGolf.com.
Solomon, a junior from Dublin, Calif., won the overall title when Burda's drive on the first playoff hole -- which the players thought was heading down the middle of the fairway -- was never found. Although the overall title goes to Solomon, the 32-year-old Burda took home a trophy of his own for capturing the largest segment of the tournament (the 25-and-over Mid Am division) and an invitation to the prestigious Stocker Cup being held later this year.
The field, playing on the 7,007, par 72 track at Stevinson Ranch, endured tricky winds throughout the otherwise mild weekend.
Dylan Neal shot 74-80 to take third palce while Amay Poria, Ryan Perkins and Paul Rice tied for fourth place.
Casey Boyns played the weekend's most consistent golf, shooting 71-71 to win the Senior Championship by five shots over Dennis Dachtler (72-75). Ronald Collet (80-71) took solo third place.
In the Net Division, Dorothy Donnelly shot 75-78 to win her second net title of the year over Marc Sanders (card playoff) and Chris Ladd. In January, Donnelly won the San Diego County Amateur Net title at Aviara Golf Club -- which just hosted the Kia Classic on the LPGA Tour.
