Burgan shares three-shot lead with Rochelle at Tennessee Mid-Amateur

Todd Burgan and Corey Rochelle fired 5-under par rounds of 66 at Ridgeway Country Club on Wednesday

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Todd Burgan of Powell and Corey Rochelle of Lawrenceburg shot 5-under 66 on day one of the Tennessee Mid-Amateur Championship to share a three-stroke lead with two rounds to go. Burgan, the 2011 and 2012 champion, made four birdies on his back nine to card 32 while Rochelle, who tied for ninth place in last year's event at The Honors Course, made no bogeys during his first round, and also fired 32 on the back side. Burgan tied for sixth place in 2014, finishing four back of winner Ryan Greer. Greer got off to a tough start while looking to defend his title. He'll have some work to do during the next two rounds as an opening-round 74 has him sitting eight back of the co-leaders, but only five strokes out of third place. Philip Lee (69), David Apperson (70), and John Burch (70) are the only other players under par during the first round at Ridgeway Country Club. Another seven players shot even par.
