Burda, Knoll, Fischer share early NCGA Super Senior lead

Three notable names are are at the top of the leaderboard after the opening round of the NCGA Super Senior

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (Oct. 15, 2018) – Three players are tied for the lead after the opening round of the NCGA Super Senior, and the defending champion is lurking just a shot behind.

Jeff Burda, the 2008 NCGA Senior Player of the Year, and Jim Knoll, who has won a record five NCGA Senior Player of the Year titles, each made an early move on Monday. The leading group also includes local Harry Fischer. All three stand at 1 under after an opening 71 at San Luis Obispo Country Club.

Burda posted three birdies to go against two bogeys, while Fischer, a member at the host course, carded two birdies and a bogey. Knoll posted four birdies and three bogeys.

Neither Burda, Fischer nor Knoll has ever won the event. With a win, Knoll would become the all-time NCGA leader in senior victories.

The three, however, have some serious firepower on their heels. Just a stroke behind is 2016 winner Chuck Richesin and defending champion Gary Vanier. Vanier, also the NCGA’s defending Super Senior Player of the Year, had a string of three straight birdies from Nos. 3-5 to offset three bogeys.

Like Knoll, Vanier also entered the event tied with Jim McMurtrey at the top spot with nine career NCGA Senior victories.
