Brandon Bauman wins San Diego City in playoff

UC Santa Barbara sophomore Brandon Bauman, a native of Las Vegas, won a playoff over Jonathan Lai on Sunday at Torrey Pines

LA JOLLA, Calif. — The 2015 San Diego City Amateur Championship title came down to a playoff on Sunday at the famed South Course at Torrey Pines. UC Santa Barbara sophomore Brandon Bauman and Yale University junior Jonathan Lai were deadlocked at even-par 216 through 54 holes. Bauman, a native of Las Vegas, prevailed over Lai, of Arcadia, in the sudden-death playoff. Bauman, after shooting 70 and 75 at Balboa Park and Torrey Pines North Course, shot the second lowest round of the day on the South Course — a 71 — to tie with Lai, who posted consistent 72s all three days. The lowest round of the afternoon went to Hunter Robinson, a teammate of Bauman's at UCSB, whose 69 gave him a share of third place with Zach Smith.
