Bob Royak fires 64 to earn No. 1 seed at Atlanta Amateur Match Play

A six-under par round of 64 gave 52-year-old Bob Royak the No. 1 seed and medalist honors at the Atlanta Amateur Match Play

ATLANTA, Ga. (Sept. 25, 2014) — Bob Royak of Alpharetta fired a 6-under-par 64 in the stroke play qualifying round to earn the top seed at the Atlanta Amateur Match Play Championship. This competition is taking place at Druid Hills Golf Club, September 25-28. Ashton Pellicano of Albany posted a 3-under-par 67. Two players finished at 2-under-par 68, including DeWitt Weaver III of Suwanee and Sean Elliott of Sandy Springs. Eight players came in at 1-under-par 69: Matthew Russell of Dunwoody, Michael Standard of McDonough, Tevis Upton of Kennesaw, James Kyles of Atlanta, James Kiely of Milton, Ryan Hines of Woodstock, Billy Mitchell of Roswell and Lee Knox of Augusta. Eleven players finished at 2-over-par 72, so a playoff was needed to determine the final three spots for match play. After the first playoff hole (10), Doug Stiles of Athens earned a spot in match play; after two extra holes (10, 9), Scotty Hoffman of Alpharetta secured a spot; and after five playoff holes (10, 9, 10, 9, 10), Mike Cromer of Peachtree Corners moved on.
