Best of the Weekend: Jared du Toit impresses at the RBC Canadian Open and more

U.S. Junior Amateur winners Min Woo Lee and back-to-back winner Eun Jeong Seong were among those picking up wins over the weekend

(July 25, 2016) -- Over the weekend Canadian Jared du Toit took the golfing world by storm with his run at the RBC Canadian Open. Du Toit, a senior at Arizona State, began the final round one-stroke off the pace before finishing tied for ninth at 9-under. U.S. JUNIOR CHAMPIOSHIPS Eun Jeong Seong went back-to-back at the U.S. Junior Girls while Min Woo Lee took home the U.S. Junior Boys title. MAJORS OF AMATEUR GOLF The week got off to a thrilling start when 18-year-old James Turner won the New England Amateur with a dramatic final day comeback. At the Northern Amateur Ian Holt became the second consecutive Kent State product to capture the title after Chase Johnson won in 2015. Trent Phillips picked up the biggest win of his young career at the Palmetto Amateur as he won by three-strokes. Out in the northwest, Washington golfer Carl Yuan defeated Andrew Whalen to win the Pacific Northwest Men's Amateur Championship. In the PNGA Women's Amateur and Mid-Amateur championships Princess Superal and Amanda Jacobs took the titles. STATE TOURNAMENTS Down in Dallas Zach Atkins won the Texas Mid-Amateur final in a heavy weight match up against Colby Harwell. Illinois' Nick Hardy took the Illinois State Amateur in historic fashion while Sean Rowen took home won the Indiana Match Play. At the Minnesota State Open an amateur won the title for the fourth consecutive year. This time it was Ben Greve. In the Virginia Women's Amateur at the Country Club of Fairfax Abby Portyrata won her second consecutive title. INTERNATIONAL EVENTS UCLA's Bronte Law picked up a big win at the European Ladies Amateur while Conor Purcell broke through with his first major win at the South of Ireland. OTHER EVENTS Future Georgia Tech golfer Andy Ogletree captured the Cardinal Amateur in wire-to-wire.
