Australian Women's Amateur: Upsets in first round

Medalist Breanna Elliott advances among may upsets including defending champion

MELBOURNE, Australia (Jan. 19, 2012) -- There were more upsets in the Australian Women’s Amateur Championship as the final sixteen head into Friday’s second elimination round at Woodlands Golf Club. The upset of the day went to Long Island member Montana Strauss (Vic) who defeated World Number 3 Cecilia Cho (NZ) 5&3. Defending champion Ashlee Dewhurst (Tas) lost to Queensland’s Christina Mew to end her defense of the title. World number 1 Lydia Ko (NZ) eased into the second round with a 5&3 win over Victorian Jacinta Brideson. Japanese pair Kotone Hori and Rio Watanabe also progressed to the second round. National Squad members Jaimee Dougan (QLD) and Su Hyun Oh (Vic) both recorded convincing 7&5 victories.
