Andrew McLauchlan wins Jones Cup Junior in a playoff

Wake Forest commit downs Caleb Surratt on second playoff hole on the Seaside Course at Sea Island Golf Club

Andrew McLauchlan won the Junior Jones Cup Invitational over the weekend, defeating Caleb Surratt on the second playoff hole on the Seaside Course at Sea Island (Ga.) Golf Club.

McLauchlan took a two-shot lead into the final round and had to like his chances after shooting a 1-under 69 in the final round, but Surratt tracked down the Wake Forest commit with three birdies and an eagle on his inward nine for a final round 66. Surratt, who won the PGA Junior Championship in July, could have won the tournament outright if not for a bogey on the final hole.

Tied at the end of regulation at 7-under 203, the two golfers headed back to the 18th tee box for a playoff.

Surratt set himself up beautifully for a birdie after hitting his approach shot 20 feet from the pin while McLauchlan's second shot found the left greenside bunker. for the second consecutive hole, Surratt seemed in position to complete the comeback, however, he would miss the birdie putt and tap in for par while McLauchlan successfully got up and down for his par to force a second playoff hole.

Back to the 18th tee they went.

Hitting first, Surratt's tee shot found the marsh, putting McLaughlan in the driver's seat. On the green in regulation, McLaughlan cozied his birdie putt three feet from the hole and after Surratt failed to hole his par save from long distance, McLauchlan tapped in to win one of the nation's most coveted junior championships.
