High school senior Kevin Smith shoots 67 on his home course to pace field in amateurgolf.com Silicon Valley Amateur

Jan. 20, 2007—Kevin Smith, a high school senior, used the local knowledge of his home course, the Coyote Creek Golf Club, to pace the championship flight at the amateurgolf.com Silicon Valley Amateur, shooting a 5-under-par 67. His nearest competition was Taylor Travis, who finished his round by going birdie, birdie, eagle to notch a 70. Colin Peck, who won the last amateurgolf.com tournament, the Livermore Valley Championship, shot his third consecutive under-par round by posting a 71. In all, their were seven golfers under par after Day 1, and two more sitting at even. In the senior division, Mark Miller led the field with a 2-under-par 70, with his nearest competitor trailing by three strokes.
