All-America Classic: Green rallies

Green, of New Mexico, fired a final-round 66 to win by one shot over a talented field at frigid El Paso Country Club

EL PASO, Tx. (Nov. 26, 2013) -- New Mexico's Gavin Green fired a final-round 66 to win by one shot in thrilling fashion at the 2013 Western Refining All-America Classic at El Paso Country Club. Green trailed leader Cory Whitsett of Alabama by two shots entering the final day of play but bested him with a 5-under 66 --- one of the event's best rounds --- to win the prestigious crown. The field, consisting of 21 NCAA All-Americans from a year ago, battled frigid temperatures throughout the event. Prior to the start of play Tuesday, there was a frost delay. Despite the conditions, scores remained low from the talented field. North Florida's MJ Maguire fired a 7-under 64 in the final round to climb into a tie for fifth place alongside Jonathan Garrick of UCLA and Tyler Dunlap --- both of whom were tied for second entering the final round. Whitsett finished second, shooting a final-round 69 to follow his cards of 66-68 on Monday. Georgia Tech's Anders Albertson placed third thanks to a closing 67 while Michael Kim of Cal took fourth, also firing a final-round 67.
