MORGAN HILL, Calif. (Jan 13, 2013) - The
Silicon Valley Amateur, which traditionally
draws a field heavy on college players, is likely
one of amateurgolf.com's toughest to win.
True to form, this year the top player was a
college standout, UC Davis senior and American
Studies Tyler Raber.
The El Macero Country Club member, was very
solid with two birdies and no bogeys over the
former Champions Tour host "Tournament
Course" at Coyote Creek in bitter cold
conditions. Saturday's 70, with 6 birdies and 4
bogeys was a bit of a roller coaster, but today,
his longest par putt was a 9-footer on the 14th
hole.
Shotaro Ban from Cal posted 145 to
take solo 2nd. Mac Marr, the Australian recruit
at St. Mary's shot 147 for 3rd. Ban and Marr
only got spots in the field by waiting for no-
show players on Saturday and their patience
paid off.
Dan Bieber, defended his Senior
Division championship with a 7-shot win over
Ron Johnson and Mark Miller. Mike Parnow
finished 4th.
The women's winner, Emily Childs,
was pleased to end her amateur career in style
before turning pro. Childs shot 152 to beat her
sister by 5 shots. Lots of thanks to the Cal
women for showing great support for women's
golf!
The Net winner from Turlock, Charles
Balisha shot 152 to edge local Scott Carrelli by
three. Both are strong supporters of
amateurgolf.com tournaments.
