Yang leads the field by one shot at 9-under as a host of Australians, including newly pro Justice Bosio, look to track her down
South Korean amateur Hyojin Yang leads the Australian Women's Open through two rounds at Kingston Heath Golf Club. Yang has carded rounds of 71-65 to get to 9-under. She played her first round at The Victoria Golf Club and her second round at Kingston Heath.
After the first round, Yang stole the spotlight. She held a one-shot lead over notable competitors like Bosio and two-time major champion Jiyai Shin. This is Yang’s fourth professional event.
Yang is currently ranked No. 68 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com Women's Rankings.
In the second round, she started hot with four birdies in the first five holes, giving her a commanding early lead. Despite a bogey later on, she finished the day at 9-under, which was enough to give her the one-shot lead heading into the weekend.
Yang's closest pursuer was 20-year-old Queenslander Justice Bosio, who earlier snatched the clubhouse lead from world No.6 Hannah Green with a birdie at her last hole in a fine second-round 69 at Victoria Golf Club.
Bosio is contesting only her fourth professional tournament after a distinguished amateur career, but she is now two rounds away from potentially winning the Australian Open trophy.
Kingston Heath Golf Club, located in Cheltenham, Victoria, is one of Australia's most prestigious golf clubs. Situated in Melbourne’s renowned sandbelt region, the course is consistently ranked among the top 3 in Australia and the top 20 globally.
Over the years, the club has hosted numerous major tournaments, including seven Men's Australian Opens, one Women's Australian Open, seven Victorian Opens, two Australian Masters, and the 2016 World Cup of Golf.
The Men's Australian Open was set to return to Kingston Heath in 2020 but was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
