Jim joined the AmateurGolf.com team in April of 2021 as its managing editor. His chief responsibilities include developing the content strategy for the site, maintaining the editorial calendar and production schedules, assigning tournament coverage, overseeing the content team while also serving as one of the site’s lead writers.
With over 30 years of experience in the fields of public relations, marketing and communications, Jim has headed up athletic communication departments at three universities on the west coast, including Santa Clara, Stanford and his alma mater, the University of San Francisco. In addition, he served as director of public relations with the Oakland A’s for eight seasons and was also the director of communications and marketing at Catholic Charities of San Francisco, one of the Bay Area’s largest non-profit agencies. He also gained valuable journalistic experience during a 16-year affiliation with ESPN-owned SportsTicker, covering the San Francisco Giants, Oakland A’s, San Jose Sharks, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco 49ers and two United States Open Golf Championships.
In addition to his role with AmateurGolf.com, Jim also serves as an official scorer for Major League Baseball with assignments on both sides of the bay involving the San Francisco Giants and Oakland A’s.
He is a passionate golfer who plays out of Indian Valley Golf Club in his hometown of Novato, Calif. and lists San Francisco Golf Club, California Golf Club, TPC Harding Park, Pacific Dunes, Spyglass Hill, Half Moon Bay (Ocean Course), Mayacama Golf Club, Sonoma Golf Club and Silverado (North) among his favorite courses. Jim enjoys all sports, collecting and reading golf books, cooking meals for his family and friends, spending time with his dogs and making occasional birdies. He threatens to move to Scotland at least once a week.
