Inaugurated in 2012, the Jones Cup Senior Invitational extends the legacy of the prestigious Jones Cup by showcasing many of the nation’s top senior amateurs each spring at Sea Island Resort’s celebrated Seaside Course in Coastal Georgia. Contested over 54 holes at approximately 6,400 yards from a unified set of tees, the championship mirrors the elite standard of its “unofficial season-opening” counterpart, attracting past national champions and prominent U.S. Senior Amateur contenders. The event’s distinguished roll of honor highlights its stature: Savannah’s Dr. Doug Hanzel—a four-time winner (2012, 2014, 2019, 2021) and one of the most accomplished senior amateurs of his era—leads a list of champions that includes Bob Royak (2020, 2023), Gene Elliott (2018), Matthew Sughrue (2022), and Jeff Knox (2025). The venue is equally formidable. Seaside, a Tom Fazio re-design of the 1929 Harry Colt and Charles Alison classic, is a windswept, ocean-side links ranked among America’s top 100 courses and home to the PGA TOUR’s RSM Classic. With firm, fast greens and ever-present coastal winds, Seaside provides a strategic, championship-caliber test worthy of the Jones Cup name.
