Vanderbilt shot a team round of 4-under 276 to take a four-shot lead in the team competition of the SEC championship at Sea Island Golf Club's Seaside Course after 36 holes of stroke play competition.
Vanderbilt is 15-under after rounds of 269-276 to take the four-shot lead over Georgia and Florida. Georgia and Florida are T2 at 11-under through the first two rounds. Auburn is in solo fourth place at 10-under, and Tennessee is in solo fifth place at 9-under.
Texas A&M is in solo sixth place at 6-under, Alabama is in solo seventh place at 5-under, and Arkansas finished in solo eighth place at 3-under.
In the individual competition, freshman Jackson Koivun of Auburn has shot repeated rounds of 4-under 66 to get to 8-under and lead by one shot over Jack Turner of Florida. Turner is in solo second place and 7-under after rounds of 68-65.
Thomas Ponder of Alabama, Cole Sherwood of Vanderbilt, Daniel Rodrigues of Texas, Hunter Logan of Mississippi State, and Bryce Lewis of Tennessee are all T3 at 5-under. Through the first two rounds, 27 golfers are under par.
Koivun has had an impressive freshman campaign thus far, making the Ben Hogan Award and Fred Haskins Award watchlist and semifinalist. He was a 2023 U.S. Amateur quarterfinalist and was named SEC Golfer of the Week three times and SEC Freshman of the Week five times.

ROUND ONE RECAP
After round one of the SEC Championship, Vanderbilt is in a familiar place with a one-shot lead after shooting 11-under par as a team at Sea Island Golf Club’s Seaside Course. Georgia sits in second place after a strong 5-under 65 from Camden Smith.
Cole Sherwood was Vanderbilt’s top performer on Wednesday, shooting 4-under 66. Matthew Riedel shot 3-under 67, while Gordon Sargent and Jackson Van Paris both recorded a first-round 2-under 68. True to their depth, William Moll was the non-counting score with a strong 1-under 69 that has him T18 on the individual leaderboard.
Sargent and Van Paris are tied with ten players at T8 after shooting 2-under. Sargent is currently ranked No. 1 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com World Rankings.
As a team, Vanderbilt recorded just five bogeys over the combined 90 they played in the opening round.
Smith paced the Georgia Bulldogs with a 5-under 65 that included seven birdies and just two bogeys. While Smith is the Bulldogs' No. 4 player, Caleb Manuel, the team's No. 5 player, also had a strong day with a 67. Ben Van Wyk fired a 68, and Buck Brumlow shot 70 to round out the scoring scores for Georgia.
Auburn, the No. 1 team in Scoreboard’s national rankings, is in third place, five shots behind Vanderbilt. First-year sensational Jackson Koivun shot a 4-under 66 and is just one shot off the individual lead. Brendan Valdes and Josiah Gilbert both shot 69, while Carson Bacha and J.M. Butler both recorded even-par 70.
Smith’s 5-under 65 paces the individual event, while Koivun and Sherwood are just one shot back. Four players shot 3-under 67 - Riedel, Manuel, Daniel Rodrigues of Texas A&M, and Kye Meeks of Ole Miss.
The top eight teams will move onto match play following 54 holes of stroke play to decide a winner.
