Mid-Atlantic Am: 3 remain tied for lead
MANAKIN SABOT, Virg. (Oct. 4, 2013) -- Jake Yount matched the low round of the day with a four-under par 68 to tie Matt Sughrue (69-71) and Sam Sikes (69-71) at four-under par 140 for the first 36 holes of the 107th Middle Atlantic Amateur at Kinloch Golf Club in Manakin-Sabot, VA on Friday, October 4.
Yount recorded two birdies and two bogeys on the front nine and then eagled the 11th and 13th holes while notching an offsetting bogey-birdie on the 12th and 18th holes.
Sikes bogeyed #2 but then birdied #8 to turn in even par 36 and then after bogeying #15 birdied the two closing holes to come in with one under 71.
Sughrue also had offsetting birdie and bogey on the front along with a sole birdie (#17) on the back for a one under 71.
Brian Simpson stood alone in fourth with 73-68--141, three under par while Mark Lawrence (72-70) and Mikey Moyers (71-71) were tied for fifth at 142.
Other players finishing even par or better were Austin Fockler (75-68--143), Joe Scheffres (66-77--143), Bennett Buch (71-73--144) and Brian Fitch (69-75--144). Five players were at 145: Logan Yates (72-73), two-time champion Michael Muehr (72-73), Lee Detmer (73-72), Peter Knade (69-76) and Brian Hicks (73-72).
Third round play featuring 52 players having made the cut at 152 or better will begin play at 7:30 AM with the leaders teeing off at 10:39 AM.
