St. Louis MET Match Play begins

ST. LOUIS, Miss. (May 4, 2013) -- It was the Thomas Wuennenberg show on Day 1 of the Match Play Championship. Wuennenberg, the 16th Seed coming in, got out to a 4-up lead on 5-time champion Skip Berkmeyer in the first match of the day. Berkmeyer would rally back and the send the match to extra holes before falling to the Mizzou golfer and grad student.

Then in the Quarters, Wuennenberg raced past Bryan Bohme 9&7 to reach the Semifinals. Wuenneberg will face Ted Moloney at 7:00am Sunday morning. This will be Moloney's first trip to the Match Play Semis.

In the other Semifinal Match, Garrett Sneed will face Dr. Andy Frost. Sneed defeated Kevin Bell 7&6 and Joe Migdal 1up to advance in his first Match Play Championship. Frost stated this was his first Match Play Championship in a number of year, he lost in the finals to David Estes here at Old Warson in 2003. Frost beat Mike Ehlers in 19holes and then ousted 2012 Senior Player of the Year Jeff Johnson 3&1 in the afternoon.

ABOUT THE Old Warson Cup

The Old Warson Cup is the association's annual match play championship, featuring the Top 16 amateurs from the previous year Player of the Year Points Standings. Invitational event. Entries are open to amateur golfers who are affiliated with or are a member of a club which is a Member Club of the Metropolitan Amateur Golf Association.
