Washington Champions: Haack takes early lead

DuPONT, Wash (April 23, 2013) -- Mike Haack fired a first-round 3-under 69 and leads by two at the 2013 Washington State Champion of Champions at The Home Course.

Haack lead a group of five in second place as second-round action begins play Wednesday.

Richard Jonson, Tom Brandes, John Von Lossow and Keith Crimp are all tied atop the Senior Division leaderboard while Karinn Dickinson (Women) and Janet Kelleher (Senior Womens) are also leading.

The first round of the 4th Annual Washington State Champion of Champions teed off Tuesday morning at The Home Course in DuPont, Wash., officially commencing the 2013 WSGA Championship season.

This year’s field consists of 83 champions from around the state of Washington, competing in four championship divisions. The championship is made up of 33 Men, 29 Senior Men, 7 Women, and 14 Senior Women. The championship calls for 36 holes of gross stroke play with competitors being re-paired according to score for the final round.

Defending champions Sean Packer (Auburn), Tom Brandes (Bellevue) and Yasue Alkins (DuPont) headline the strongest field to date in this championship. Past Men’s Champions in the field include 2009 Champion Bjorn Bjorke (Port Orchard) and 2010 Champion Mike Haack (Bellevue), while the past Women’s Champions in the field include 2009 Champion Denise Kieffer (Fircrest) and 2010 Champion Alison Murdoch (Victoria, B.C.).

ABOUT THE Washington Champion of Champions

Format: 36-hole gross stroke play competition. Men’s and Women’s Championships run concurrently.

Age Limit: No age limit

Handicap Limit: No handicap limit

Field Limit: Open to the first 96 male players (48 men & 48 senior men) and 48 female (18 women & 30 senior women) players to complete an entry form and meet at least one of the below requirements:

• Previous two years Club Champion or Senior Club Champion at a WSGA member club
• Previous year's champion of a WSGA Championship (excludes Parent-Child Championship)
• Top-10 on the WSGA Men's Performance Points List as of the end of the previous calendar year
• Top-5 on the WSGA Women's Performance Points List as of the end of the previous calendar year
• Top-5 on the WSGA Senior Men's Performance Points List as of the end of the previous calendar year
• Top-5 on the WSGA Senior Women's Performance Points List as of the end of the previous calendar year
• Previous year's WJGA State Junior Boys' and Girls' Champion
• Previous year's champion of any event on the WSGA Men's, Women's, Senior Men's, or Senior Women's Performance Points List.
