SANDY, UT (March 19, 2005) -- Nick Becker edged Clay Bingham on the fourth hole of a playoff to win the UGA Winterchamps title Sunday at Sunbrook Golf Course. They each scored 83 Stableford points after regulation play. On the fourth hole of the sudden-death playoff Bingham hit his second shot off the fairway and into a bush and had to settle for a bogey while Becker managed an easy two-putt par to win the title.
Becker is a mainstay of the BYU golf team and this was his first appearance in the UGA Winterchamps. Bingham won the Winterchamps two years ago.
Angela Halafuka, formerly Angela Bradford, won the women's title by four points over Jodi White.
At this writing the senior championship was still being played.
In the men's division Bingham held the first round lead with 45 points at Coral Canyon and Becker trailed by one. At Sunbrook Becker carded a 39 and Bingham had a 38.
The weather was cold and rainy most of the tournament.
In the women's division Halafuka, White, and Karen Killpack were the first round leaders with 33 points at Bloomington. Halafuka scored 40 points during the final round at Coral Canyon.
