ADELAIDE, Australia (March 21, 2013) -- Interstate Players Troy Moses (Bonnie Doon - NSW) and Jordan Cooper (Sanctuary Lakes - VIC) will contest the Match Play Final of the South Australian Men’s Amateur Championship.

Not since New South Welshman Keith Pix won the title in 1951 has the SA Amateur Championship been won by a non-South Australian. (Both John Muller 75’ and Don Sharp 71’ were living in SA when they won their titles)

Cooper the 11th qualifier, progressed to the final after three tight wins. 2/1 over Kevin Marques (Indooroopilly), 1up over SA State Captain Chris Brown (The Grange) and then by defeating Tim Baker (Kooyonga), in an absorbing Semi Final, on the 38th hole.

Moses who lived in South Australia in 2011 to attend the Elite College of Golf and who is a former member of the Glenelg Golf Club, defeated SA State Players Ben Stowe 19th, then Heath Riches 7/6 before advancing to the Semi Finals against Matthew Wittenberg (Avondale).

“I played really well today and had 7 birdies. I was 2 up after 18 then had to grind it out to win 3/2. My chipping and putting really saved me.” Moses said.

Recently selected for the NSW State Team for the first time, Moses will be looking to atone for his recent loss in the Match Play final of the NSW Amateur.

‘It would be great to make up for that.” Moses said. “The Grange really suits me, as it’s long and wide, I know the course quite well. I’m driving really well, which should help”.

The Match Play Final of the South Australian Men’s Amateur Championship will commence at 8.00am on Sunday 24 March and will be played over 36 holes at The Grange Golf Club.

WOMEN'S

Cyna Rodriguez from the Philippines will play South Australian-based Korean Jenny Lee from the Glenelg Golf Club in the Final of the South Australian Women’s Amateur Championship.

Rodriguez the top qualifier after the stroke rounds, progressed through to the final with wins over Elysia Yap (Glenelg) 6/5 in the quarter finals, then via a hard fought win over SA Women’s Captain Caitlin Roberts (Royal Adelaide) 2/1.

Lee, runner up in the Australian Women’s Amateur Championship final in January against world number 3 Minjee Lee, progressed after a gripping quarter final victory on the 19th hole, over world number 17 Grace Lennon (Kingston Heath).

In the Semi Final, Lee defeated Jayvie Agojo 3/1 preventing an all Philippine final.

“I’m hitting the ball okay and I’m happy with my short game and putting, I had four birdies today and would have finished about 2 under” Lee said.

Lee is quietly confident in the match play format after her recent national success.

“I’ve been struggling a little with strokeplay and only just qualified in 7th position, similar to the Aussie Amateur when I qualified 27th. Lee said

“In strokeplay you have to hit the ball well and putt well to finish under par, in Match Play it’s a different mindset, having to just beat that one person.” Lee added.

The Match Play Final of the South Australian Women’s Amateur Championship will commence at 8.10am on Sunday 24 March and will be played over 36 holes at The Grange Golf Club.
